POLICY
Fundamental Principles
|
My goal is to create a positive learning
environment where all students feel valued, and are comfortable to take risks
and make mistakes through the learning process.
|
I will make an effort to get to know my students
and their interests, and incorporate group and team activities. I will also
communicate with other teacher candidates and teacher’s for other ideas to
encourage an inclusive environment.

POLICY
Learning Skills & Work Habits
|
My goal is to integrate learning skills and work
habits into curriculum tasks, and enable students to take on more
responsibility while supporting their development.
|
I will research activities and assignments that
will scaffold and enable students to be more independent in their learning.
This may begin with working cooperatively in groups and progressing to
inquiry based collaborative learning.
|

POLICY
Performance Standards: The Achievement Chart
|
I will offer a variety of tasks for students to display
their learning and achievement in all 4 aspects of the achievement chart in a
balanced method.
|
By having a thorough understanding of the
curriculums and the expectations, I can create different tasks that can
assess students in more than one aspect of the achievement chart. I can also
show students what success looks like in terms of each aspect of the
achievement chart.

POLICY
Assessment FOR Learning & AS Learning
|
I will provide thorough feedback in assessment
tasks for learning, and help students set goals and monitor their own
progress through assessment as learning at consistent periods throughout the year.
|
I will review the lessons and readings from
Assessment class, and other courses to gain a thorough understanding the role
of assessment for and as learning. Consistent reflection of each lesson will
help me grow as a teacher and improve my assessing strategies. I will also
seek ways/forms to keep track of assessments/evaluations.
|
|
|
POLICY
Evaluation
|
I will create evaluation policies that students
will be able to clearly understand, and will show them what success looks
like with examples.
|
I will seek the advice of my associate teacher,
and other teachers with many years of experience to find out what evaluation
tools and assignments they have found most effective. I will also create or
acquire student examples to show my students examples of success for
assignments.
|
|
|
POLICY
Reporting Student Achievement
|
I will develop fair and accurate report card
grades and comments that reflect student’s learning in the classroom, and
ensure clear communication with parents about student’s grades.
|
I will stay organized with my assessment notes
and evaluations. This may be in the form of an app or student portfolios. I
will also make sure I have gathered enough evidence to support student learning.
|
|
|
POLICY
Students With Special Education Needs
|
I will create strategies and assignments that
will implement students with IEP’s seamlessly, and individualize
modifications to promote student success.
|
I will communicate with the EA’s of my students,
as well as the SERT to ensure that we work together to create/implement IEP’s
and modifications for students with special needs. It will also be important
to develop a thorough student profile to identify their strengths and
learning styles.
|
|
|
POLICY
English Language Learners
|
I will get to know my students and understand
their interests and needs, in order to adapt effective lesson plans to meet
their needs.
|
I will develop a thorough student profile to
discover the student’s strengths and learning styles that work best. I will
also find various ways to communicate information and assignments (written,
oral, visual)
